Backing up Appsīefore iTunes 12.7 ( Released September 12, 2017), iTunes had a built-in App Store browser. 18 of have ended up being removed from the App Store for some reason or another over the years. And I’m not happy to see that Apple has removed the ability to backup apps…įor posterity: as of ApI had 405 apps installed on my iPhone 8. I’m not happy that the battery percentage is no longer capable of being shown by default. I’m not happy that the control center is gone from the bottom. I’m not happy to have to re-auth tons of apps. ![]() I’m not happy to lose TouchID (hopefully, it’ll make a comeback). I am happy to get my sweet, sweet iPhone 5s body back (oh, how I’ve missed you). Thanks to various decisions made inside Apple, I’ve never been unhappier to get a new electronic. And the death of iTunes is just now hitting as I’m looking to update to the new iPhone 12. ![]() ![]() I’ve been out of the iOS dev scene for a few years now. Apple now says, “just redownload the app–oh wait, the app no longer exists? Haha, fuck you.” TL DR Full iOS backups used to include apps you purchased–so you could restore apps from a backup even if Apple removed them from the App Store–because that’s what having a backup was for.
